A Note About "Shine" From Anna |
|
| Posted by Kevin on 29 Jan 2008 | 0 Comments | |
|
"Shine" is a song FOR those people who have made mistakes in a public way, FOR people whose mistakes and heartbreak are considered entertainment. When sad things that would hurt ANYBODY happen, like your relationship falling apart and making entertainment news, or you are constantly being told how you aren't good, thin, pretty, or rich enough, or your job being so taxing for the roles you have to play whether it's having to immerse yourself in a crazy depressed state of mind to play a crazy depressed character, or having to stay permanently smiling every time you leave your house even though you've just had a miscarriage, or an argument with someone you love, or your dog died and you finally crack, we just say, "It was bound to happen, everyone in Hollywood is shallow and addicted."
"Shine" is also saying that little girls, like your daughters and sisters or you, don't have to throw up to be pretty, be sleazy to be loved, or be crazy to get attention. Just because the BAD things are what people pay money for doesn't mean that those things are ALL of what your favorite movie and music stars are. What about the fact that the heiress is an amazing business woman, and the popstar writes poetry, can really dance, or really sing? EVERYONE deserves a chance. You don't have to settle for what others believe you to be. Force them to see you for what you are proud of. To be bigger than your title, stereotype, or clique, bigger than your loneliness and to know you are better than another's definition of you is to Shine. |

Possible Anna Single/CD News |

Since this is from Anna's Wikipedia page, we are not sure if this is 100% accurate, but here is some new single/cd news:
In August 2007 it was reported by Radio & Records that Nalick will release her second album on December 31, 2007 currently under the title of Acceptance, influenced by the difficult time she has had to "personally overcome the sophomore slump". The first single to be released from the new album will be "Versus" on September 25, 2007. If this is true, it won't be long until we finally hear some Anna music! :) |

So, I turned 23. Still feel 17 except for when I feel 80. Still act 5.And speaking of that, I celebrated at Disneyland with a reservation at the Blue Bayou...the restaurant in the Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a blast and if you were at the park too and saw a girl in a giant sparkly crown and a fluffy skirt...that was me. Yeah, you feel bad for making fun of that girl now, huh?! So, what is my good news? It's been killing me to keep you waiting to hear what I'm doing. I had some business to take care of before I could spread the word, but now that that's out of the way, here it is. I'm in the studio officially now. (Also took a while due to some biz-nas) I chose a producer called Mike Flynn. He produced The Fray, who put out my favorite album of last year. The songs are ready and I'm still adding more. I think this album is going to be wicked cool! I can't wait for it to be finished...but it will still be a little while before you can hear anything. The songs are about my experiences on the road (in a very anybody-could-relate kind of way) and about my loves and hates and even some about you...or some of you...but I'll never tell who. I mean I don't say, "Spunky moose is the moose of the day and Mer smells almost as good as New England Karen/ Little Karen is Little and cute and little/ Bananahead once said he's no longer a superfan just a regular fan/ but that's okay it's not tearin'...me apart anymore." But you do make an appearance. Anyhow, I'll keep you posted on new changes now. Anna |

So I'm dating young Wills, eh. Saw it on The message board. Yes, I see the resemblance between Ms. Kate and I. Of course I was in England not too long ago and I never said with whom.??????? But if I were to choose purely based on my type...I think I'd like Prince Harry. He looks like fun. Maybe the trouble maker of the two. Anyhow, their Grandma is on my list of people I'd love to meet. And speaking of that, I met m first off of that list just a few days ago. I met Mr. Mel Brooks. I was very nervous actually, but he was so gracious and sweet. I met Dick Van Patten on the same day and I told him how my brother and I used to get in trouble at fancy Catholic Masses because we would recite "Mass in the New Latin. Oh Ord-lay, ive-us-gay Or-yay essings-blay. Amen-ay." That was one of his lines in Robin Hood Men In Tights. When I was 9 Mel Brooks gave me a signed $5 bill. I still have it. It was quite a memorable day for me meeting those gentlemen. Hey! What's new in Australia? I saw some folks on the message board are working on getting my music out there. What an honor. I know there are a number of great singer songwriter chicks who originated in Australia. You folks have great taste! How about a few more questions? Favorite flower? Orchid...also daffodils...and very dark red roses Candy Bar? A Snickers/Almond Joy hybrid would make me very happy. Favorite strange combination? I love drinking cold chocolate milk in a bubble bath. I've also heard of beer in the shower. That sounds icky to me. Favorite new music? (it only has to be new to you) Lily Allen...Love her! I'm into the European girl singers right now. Jem and Regina Spektor too, but Lily is my favorite. She's naughty! Great news you'd like to share? I'm gonna save mine for the next entry so no one copies me. xo Anna |

Did you all hear my song after the Oscars. I signed off on that months and months ago and I've been wondering if they'd ever use it. Great placement!
So why don't I ask you all a few questions to even this playing field. I'll ask and then give my answer. Q. Age of first kiss A. 15...new years eve the year I turned 16 Q. 5 of your favorite songs A. Hallelujah-Jeff Buckley, Across The Universe-The Beatles, Champagne Supernova-Oasis, Travelin' Soldier-Dixie Chicks, Staring at the Sun-U2 Q. Current favorite song A. Heaven Forbid- The Fray Q. Top 5 people you'd like to meet A. Mel Brooks, Bono, Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Paul McCartney, um...can't think of a 5th Q. Top 5 favorite Actors/Actresses A. Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken, Jack Nicholson, Robert Redford, Brad Pitt / Katharine Hepburn, Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie, Anne Bancroft, Rachel Mcadams...something about her reminds me of me...quirky Q. Hidden talent A. I can hold my hands behind my back and bring them over my head to the front without letting go of my hands. Make sense? Q. Guilty pleasure A. Ben and Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie ice cream Q. Someone You'd like to kick kind of hard A. K-Fed...I also feel bad for Ms. Britney and I think people ought to leave her alone Q. Words you like to say / Words you hate the sound of A. I really like "Shit" but I try not to say it much, "bilingual" is good but I really have no reason to say it very often, also "contrarywise", "barnacle", and "purr"...all good ones. And I can't stand "fiance", "drawers", "dwarves", "sorority", "pimple", various private part words, "fabulous" and the phrases "like so" and "whatnot" and "at the end of the day..." Q. Do you best relate to water, fire, wind, or earth....go go Captain Planet A. As an Aries I'm all fire, but I feel comforted by water and wind. Maybe it's a case of opposites attract. Answer honestly now! And then go on Youtube and check out "talking cats" - click the first one. The translation is especially hilarious. And then "talking animals". Also click the first option. I wish I had exciting things to tell you, but I'm afraid things have been rather slow in my house. I'm writing songs and still making some big kid decisions about my second record. I've gotten into reading and watching Tennessee Williams' work. I've always loved "A Streetcar Named Desire" and I recently watched "Sweet Bird of Youth" and was very touched by it. I love Tennessee Williams for the same reasons I love F. Scott Fitzgerald. They have such insight into human emotions and the things that eat at people. Death, aging, loss, love, secrets, and a past that won't stay there, and always with a lesson. However not always with a happy ending, Williams' stories often leave you hanging, which I like, because all stories show only a period of time, so the outcome is only temporary. I also started reading a book on Walt Disney and at the same time I'm reading The Tempest by Shakespeare...of course. |

New Message From Anna [January 19] |

I just finished reading Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift. The idea came to me that I should read it when I was in Dublin and read several plaques and stories in his honor. It's been a fun and interesting read. I must admit I was surprised by how it ended. I would have expected a full account of the affects of ALL of his travels on his personality, but it only describes how he became sort of nasty to his family in the last five years because of his experiences in the last land he visited. But I suppose that that is because it's written like an account of past travels, sort of like a journal in a way...and I'm always the most affected by my most recent adventures. But I needed more closure, damn it! Also, the version I read didn't include a political meaning behind everything and I think that is the only way to get the very most out of the story. Swift had more to say than what I can figure out on my own as an American girl born a few hundred years after he wrote this book. I'll have to study up now. And other than reading, I've been busy in a little rehearsal studio with my Boys, arranging songs for the new record. So that's what I do all day and at night I read. I haven't had a TV in my house for 3 months and I don't miss it. The only problem being that I'm behind on some important world issues. For example, its important that I and everyone start paying attention to who is running for what right now because I think the next election is very important for our country. I'm not usually one to get politically vocal because I like my music to be the sole focus, but I do encourage people who read this to start snooping around the papers or news programs because for those of us who can vote, it does count and I want to always live in a country I feel safe and really believe in. So let's educate ourselves.

12.11.06 Good Mornin', I just got back into the USA last night and despite my suitcase not showing up till today,it was an uneventful flight. The trip to Dublin was fun. George Michael puts on a fabulous show and the audience both nights I was there was just incredible. He had everybody waving their hands and cellphones. And we spent most of the time in an area called Temple Bar which is the most lovely little lit up area of shopping and gaiety. It was fun going to sleep every night...or rather being awake all night listening to young men in large groups singing songs on their way home and young ladies with those pretty accents telling their gentlemen to quiet down. I tasted the Guinness and bought some fun souvenirs to bring home to the family. I hope to go back soon...I have a feeling the next record will take me farther in distance than the last...and I'd like to see the Irish countryside. I hope no one will be offended that the trip has made me want to watch Lord of the Rings, for a few young Irish cuties reminded me of the two little blonde friends of Young Baggins. An attractive group, those Irish folks are. I think I'm about a fourth Irish or more. Perhaps that's where I got my spunk. But like most Americans I'm a mutt. Irish, English, and Russian. Smashley, I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. Sick kitties are such a shame. xo Anna |

Anna Journal Post (12/3/06) |
|
| Posted by Kevin on 07 Dec 2006 | 0 Comments | |
|
Anna posted a new journal on her official site on December 3. Here it is!
Alright, here are my answers to the "Ask Anna Anything" post. -I've not yet listened to John's Continuum. Lately I've been listening to U2, Billie Holiday, Radiohead, Fiona Apple and a mix of songs from my favorite newer acts...The Fray, Postal Service, and I can't remember his name, but the song that goes, Come on and we'll be/like we were free/push the pedal down/watch the world around fly by us...I love the melody. -Some of my favorite poets are Pablo Neruda, Emily Dickenson, Longfellow, Sylvia Plath, Dr. Suess, and many more. -I did meet Fat Joe once...well sort of. I was at an awards show and I was sampling the chocolate mousse in the buffet and I said to Timmy (louder than I expected) "I might as well just spread this on my butt and hips because that's where it'll end up" and someone behind me said, "You got my attention." It was Fat Joe, but I'm pretty sure he didn't know it was me. I was embarrassed so I made my exit. When Tommy Lee made mention of Breathe a while back in Rolling Stone I was surprised but he likes lyrics so I was honored. As a person I think he's very sweet and kind. I have a little sisterly crush on him. -If I was a Gummy Bear I'd hope to be a red one. It's my favorite. But a blue and red Gummy Worm would be acceptable too. Yummy. -I should think that a falling tree always makes a sound because although a person or creature may not hear it, the other trees might be disturbed. I know that when I fall down the stairs all alone and nobody sees, I'm still embarrassed. And the sound is something like a leprechaun with a potty mouth being shaken around in a shoe box. And that reminds me. I'm going to visit Dublin to see a George Michael concert and do some business. I'm very excited. And also, to Tara..I've mastered Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on my Ukalele. xo Anna |

Anna posted a new journal entry on November 8th along with a great picture of her on halloween. Check out her post below!
Hey guess who I was for Halloween? Last year I was Timmy so I decided to go for something a bit more feminine this year. Still just as much of a character though. You have photos of last year, so here is one of me as Alice from this year. Apparently demon Alice with my red-eyes. I'd really love to see a remake of Alice in Wonderland with real life actors in it that follows Disney's version but maybe with Tim Burton directing it so its rather dark like Sleepy Hollow. |

Well, I wish I had written Toxic. I always list that when interviewers ask what song is my "guilty pleasure." As a songwriter chick I'm only supposed to like Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan...and I love both, but sometimes I wanna put on a leather bodysuit and dance through security lights to a song that isn't in 3/4 and has a catchy sexy beat...cause none of my songs are like that. So looks like the young Queen of Pop and I, The Breathe Girl are mutual fans of each other. I would have never guessed, but what a beautiful thing it is that music can be related to by so many people. (If you are totally lost right now, I'm talking about a magazine article in which Ms. Spears had nice things to say about Breathe.) On another note, thank you thank you thank you to those of you who showed up at my Seattle show. It was great to see you and hugs all around. You always come through for me and that is why I love you. I'll do my best to always come through for you too. |

Britney Spears Comments on "Breathe" |
|
| Posted by Kevin on 30 Sep 2006 | 0 Comments | |

Britney Spears is featured on the cover of Q Magazine and inside there is an interview with one of the questions being "Which track do you wish you'd written?" Her response is:
"Oh, there's so many. You know that song Breathe? It goes "2am da-na-da-da-da." Something like that? It's a slow song. It's about people judging her because she's pregnant with a baby. And she's, like, you know, they're all hypocrites, we're all here for the very same reason. Her words are, like, genius and she wrote the song. It's a really cool song - it's real pretty and really well written. But I can't remember her name [Anna Nalick; the song is Breathe (2am). a US hit in 2005]." |

The latest word from Anna...
Hey kids, I miss the heck out of you. Long time, no...concert. Hey, Jade from the message board, I hope I get to meet you on the 23, we'll have to see when we get there. Since I've been home, and I've actually still been busy working, I've done some good things for myself. Like...hair trim, toes done, back on a healthy eating and exercise schedule (right now I'm enjoying some celery with organic peanut butter...yummy) and I have a dentist appointment soon to clean my chompers and maybe fix some painful chips I acquired from bashing my face on the microphone. You know I was thinking...I don't much like the term "fans" and fan/friends is weird. Gwen Stefani calls her fans "lambs" and I think Mariah Carey has a name for hers too. So I've come up with an idea...tell me what you think...Fancakes! Cause who doesn't like pancakes? And you all are as sweet as morning treats. Tell me what you think. xo Anna |
